Linux.conf.au 2003: Dates

These dates have now largely been confirmed due to the availability of UWA as a venue.

Due to the venues probably being Universities, this will have to be during the University holidays to secure the venues and the accomodation.

January is seen as good since this is the longest break at the University, and means that Nothern hemisphere speakers are enticed away from winter. The weather in Perth is generally good, nights are long, and many activites can be done outside.

Anthony suggested "If we plan the Cons for 22-24 Jan we get a skyshow just after it."

In conjunction with any other activites (trip to Rotto, Margaret River, etc), we can schedule all of this in. The span of dates required needs to be filled wuth events. If there are three streams of presentations, and 30 presentations, then we have 10 time slots (30/3). If each presentation is alloted 1.5 hrs, starting from 9:00 - 10:30, 11:00 - 12:30, then lunch 12:30 - 2:00, presenation 2:00 - 3:30, then beer o'clock from 3:30 to 5:00 pm. So with three slots per day, 4 days.

You need to leave at least 30 minutes between presentations for people to move, toilet, drink, ask questions. You cannot start too early in the morning!

Further suggestion, a mini-Debian conference on the monday and Tuesday for the Debian people. Not part of the scope of the LCA organisation, but a tack-on.
